compositionImagine a world without books. There would be no fantasy, no vicarious travel to foreign lands or to places that don’t even exist. Events and ideas would be remembered only for a lifetime and then they’d fade; the actual lives of leaders and heros and villains would soon be replaced by myth and legend. There would be no magic to make you wonder, no mystery to keep you reading late into the night, no horror to scare the bejeebers out of you. There would be no computers and no Internet (oh the horror!). Knowledge and learning would be confined to a small number of people and skills would be passed from a master to a limited number of apprentices. Whether you love books or not, without them your life would be different. Think agrarian … without John Deere.

The Internet is a really huge, multi-tentacled book that ensures we will not be returning to the Dark Ages anytime soon. But even if the electricity never fails, there is still a need for traditional books—that new book smell, the feel of the pages, the illustrations on the cover, how it revs your mind. Take it out for a quick spin, a trip across the country, or across the Universe. It’s difficult to develop the same relationship with a laptop.

I have years of book design and composition experience using Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Framemaker, and InDesign for my creations. To view PDF samples of recent books I have designed and composed, please click on the links below the bird on the stone column.
